Leeds United’s World Cup-bound quartet experienced a mixed Sunday across international friendlies.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Leeds have four players heading to this summer’s World Cup, and three of their nations were in action on Sunday.
In a pre-World Cup boost, Ao Tanaka started Japan’s friendly against Iceland and played 78 minutes as his side won 1-0.
Noah Okafor, selected in Switzerland’s World Cup squad, missed the Sunday afternoon 4-1 victory over Jordan in St Gallen’s Kybunpark due to a calf issue. On Saturday evening it was stated he was still struggling, although boss Murat Yakin was not concerned about his long-term availability.
Brenden Aaronson’s USA met Senegal at the Bank Of America Stadium on Sunday evening. Having married on Friday, he returned to camp on Saturday, was named among the substitutes and remained unused in a 3-2 win.
Left back Gabi Gudmundsson completes the Leeds contingent with Sweden. They face hosts Norway in a friendly on Monday evening, a six pm kick-off.
