According to Teamtalk, the Seagulls are out of the chase to sign the Dutchman this summer from the Championship side.

It was previously reported that the Premier League club were in talks to sign the 22-year-old, with Liverpool and Chelsea also interested.

Summerville won the EFL player of the year award last season due to his impressive performances in Daniel Farke’s side, contributing 19 goals and nine assists from 43 regular league appearances (all stats from Fbref).

But failure to gain promotion to the Premier League has led to speculation that his future could lie away from Elland Road going into the upcoming campaign.

Brighton are believed to be out of the running for Summerville following a lack of progress in talks between the two clubs.

This will come as a huge boost to Leeds, who will be hoping to hold onto the player for at least another season.

However, interest remains from elsewhere from the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea, with PSG’s name also mentioned as a potential destination in recent weeks.

Summerville could be a replacement for Mohammed Salah, should he depart Anfield at any point, but it’s understood that a move next year is more likely for the Egyptian.

Leeds’ financial situation was a major talking point surrounding the future of Summerville prior to the sale of Archie Gray to Tottenham Hotspur.

The midfielder moved to the Premier League side in a deal worth a reported £40 million, which should have eased the burden on their need to sell players in the transfer window.

It was previously claimed that Leeds had set an asking price around £35 to 40 million for Summerville, but this was prior to Gray’s sale.

It is possible that this asking price has been raised in the aftermath of the deal with Spurs, which also saw Joe Rodon go in the opposite direction for £10 million.

Summerville’s importance to Leeds

Summerville signed for Leeds in a deal worth just £1.3 million in the summer of 2020 from Dutch side Feyenoord.

He has grown into a crucial part of Farke’s first team plans at Elland Road, and will be key to a promotion push next year if he remains.

But a sale could still be on the cards, with a number of high profile clubs circling.

Leeds have until 30 August to find a resolution to this situation before the transfer window closes.

Brighton boost might be short-lived for Leeds

Brighton pulling out of the race to sign Summerville won’t end the speculation over his future with the club.

Liverpool, Chelsea and even PSG are all still lurking, and will be able to provide the funds needed to test Leeds’ resolve.

Keeping the Dutchman would be a huge boost to their promotion chances, but an offer in the £50 million range could be enough to tempt them into a sale.

Given his contract runs until 2026, this could also be the optimum time to cash in if the club wants to maximise his potential value in the market.
