Leeds United are closing in on the signing of Michael Zetterer.
According to a report, the experienced goalkeeper will join as a backup to James Trafford.
The ex-Manchester City goalkeeper joined Leeds United earlier this summer for a club record fee, and he is set to be the first-choice goalkeeper at Leeds.
They need more depth in goal, and they have decided to make a move for Zetterer. Illan Meslier and Karl Darlow have already left the club, and Lucas Perri has been linked with a move away as well. The Frankfurt goalkeeper will now become the club’s new number two.
The opportunity to play in the Premier League will be exciting for the experienced goalkeeper.
According to a report from Sport1, the 31-year-old has arrived in Leeds to undergo a medical, but the two clubs are yet to finalise an agreement. Negotiations are underway, and it remains to be seen whether all parties can come to an agreement quickly.
Frankfurt are looking to agree on an initial loan deal with Leeds, and the report from Sport1 claims the German club hopes to include an option-to-buy clause. It remains to be seen whether Leeds United is prepared to accept those demands and get the deal across the line.
They need more quality and depth in the team in order to do well in the Premier League season. The 31-year-old goalkeeper could be a leader for them in the dressing room. He has the quality and the experience to help them improve.
The 31-year-old will be hoping to sort out his future quickly and focus on his football.
