Leeds remain confident of signing Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Michael Zetterer as back-up to James Trafford, despite an agency figure dismissing talk of progress.

According to The Athletic, Leeds were nearing an outline agreement with Frankfurt, while Bild quoted agency consultant Nico Pellatz saying the reports were untrue and a move was out of the question.

Leeds still believe they can land the 31-year-old and consider those remarks inconsistent with their understanding of the situation.

Any deal hinges on a goalkeeper chain involving Lucas Perri and Frankfurt sourcing a replacement. Leeds are waiting for Perri to recover from a quad injury before sanctioning his exit, with Torino preparing a loan with an option to buy.

A club-to-club agreement for Perri is not yet formalised, although his agent travelled to Italy this week. Torino had hoped to conclude it by now and are anxious to complete it soon.

Perri, a £13.9m signing last summer who lost the number one spot in January, played only 45 minutes in pre-season against Wrexham and has not featured for nearly a month.

Barring a long-term Trafford injury, Zetterer would face limited minutes if he joins. Trafford, 23, is the firm first choice after a club-record £40m arrival.

Zetterer made 29 appearances last season, five in the Champions League. He might play only one cup tie if Leeds lose to Nottingham Forest in the League Cup on Tuesday, likely too soon for any arrival, and then exit the FA Cup in the third round.

He joined Frankfurt from Werder Bremen last year for about £5m and is contracted until 2029.
