Leeds United have submitted a planning application to Leeds City Council for a fan park at Elland Road as part of the stadium’s redevelopment.
The club said in a statement that the venue would be a flexible, multi-purpose space for about 2,000 people, serving matchdays and live screenings, with two bar areas and an outdoor courtyard.
Leeds have bought the warehouse and units beside the Stadium Way car park, opposite the East Stand, and plan to convert part of the site while keeping its industrial character.
Designs include two levels of bar and seating, provision for varied food and drink retailers, and a new roof to bring natural light and ventilation.
The proposal fits the council’s Elland Road masterplan, which envisages mixed-use projects to the west, north and east of the ground, plus a mass transit link.
Phase one of the wider rebuild was approved earlier this year. Work has begun on a new West Stand behind the existing structure, with a new North Stand planned. The projected final capacity is around 53,000.
The first stadium liaison meeting is scheduled for Thursday July 23 at six pm in the Gary Speed Suite, offering the public updates, a chance to comment on the fan park plans and to raise concerns.
