Leeds United beat Burnley 3-1 on Friday night to climb to 14th on 43 points, increasing pressure on 18th-placed Spurs. Tottenham are nine points adrift with four to play, and Leeds moved above Newcastle before the Magpies meet Brighton on Saturday.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Daniel Farke’s name rang around Elland Road at full-time. The display was imperfect but enough, featuring Anton Stach’s long-range strike, a flowing move and a scrappy finish. Stach returned from injury, having managed only 45 minutes against Chelsea, while Jaka Bijol dominated Zian Flemming in the air and set up Stach.

Before kick-off, chairman Paraag Marathe toured the pitch after meeting the Supporters Advisory Board, while former chairman Andrea Radrizzani embraced him. Joe Rodon advised Jayden Bogle and the West Stand gave Hannibal Mejbri a frosty reception.

During the first half Mejbri briefly disappeared down the tunnel, then argued with a groundsman after stepping on a live sprinkler, and remonstrated again at half-time. Farke was visibly irked with Bramall and with some of his own players.

Referee Thomas Bramall delivered what was described as Elland Road’s worst officiating display. On the pitch Mejbri was floored by Ethan Ampadu, then caught Brenden Aaronson, was booked and left promptly at full-time.

Before the restart Joel Piroe shared a moment with former Feyenoord team-mate Quilindschy Hartman, and Rodon beat Jaidon Anthony in a sprint. Farke then tore into fourth official Adam Herczeg when a Leeds substitution went ahead too soon, and Mejbri later apologised to Aaronson.
