Transfer deadline day proved subdued as Leeds United missed out on Jorgen Strand Larsen, who left Wolverhampton Wanderers for Crystal Palace in a £48m deal. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Leeds had an initial offer believed to be around £35m turned down.
Palace chairman Steve Parish welcomed the signing and said the striker can be a long-term asset, while Strand Larsen promised energy and goals.
A late Dwight McNeil switch collapsed despite an extension, so he stays with Everton, who have loaned in Chelsea winger Tyrique George.
Wolves quickly reinvested, landing Adam Armstrong from Southampton in a reported £7m move to Molineux. England international Angel Gomes will spend the rest of the season on loan with Rob Edwards’ side.
Sunderland moved into the top eight with a home win over Burnley while finalising a £17.5m deal for Anderlecht winger Nilson Angulo. The Ecuador international signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with an option of 12 months and replaces Simon Adringa, who joined Monaco on loan. Sporting director Kristjaan Speakman called him quick, creative and ambitious with senior and international experience.
Liverpool sealed a reported £60m agreement for Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet. The France Under-21 international is believed to have been a long-term Chelsea target and will join at the end of the season on a long-term contract.
