Leeds United could miss out on another target, with The Times reporting that Raheem Sterling wants a permanent move to Fulham this month to remain in London. The same report adds West Ham have beaten Leeds to Taty Castellanos from Lazio in a £25.3m deal, the Argentine having been tracked since summer 2023.

Sterling, 31, has not played a minute under Enzo Maresca this season after being banished from the Chelsea squad, and he has a son in Arsenal’s academy. He had been linked to Leeds in mid November. He is said to favour staying in the capital for family reasons.

A pathway could open at Craven Cottage if Adama Traore departs, with West Ham offering the winger a contract, the report suggests. An exit for the Spaniard would create space for Sterling.

Any Leeds move looks unlikely, with no indication he would relocate to Yorkshire. Daniel Farke could have used him either up front or as a wing-back, roles he has covered before.

Even if he were open to Leeds, a permanent switch would be difficult. The 49ers must manage PSR, with the Daily Mail claiming around £25m could be made available only for an irresistible deal.

A permanent agreement would also mean confronting Sterling’s reported £325,000-a-week wages. Even £250,000-a-week for the remaining six months is roughly £6m, and he might need a month or two to regain sharpness.
