Leedsunited.news reports that Leeds United are planning a £17m bid for Sevilla’s Ruben Vargas, the 56-time Switzerland international Victor Orta signed from Augsburg for £2m in January.
Orta’s Leeds tenure drew criticism at times, particularly under Jesse Marsch, yet he unearthed key pieces. Daniel Farke continues to rely on Pascal Struijk, recruited from Ajax as a teenager, while Illan Meslier, Crysencio Summerville, Mateo Joseph and Willy Gnonto were signed young.
His standout deal was Raphinha, bought from Rennes for about £17m. The Brazilian produced 27 goal involvements in 69 Leeds games, broke into his national team, then joined Barcelona for £55m, a £38m profit within two years. Suggestions Barcelona still owed money were dismissed.
Now at Real Valladolid, Orta left Sevilla with Vargas viewed as a success. The winger has impressed in La Liga this season, contributing to seven goals.
Leeds are said to see Vargas as a potential second Raphinha. If a £17m agreement is struck, Sevilla would be set for close to ten times their outlay.
Leeds are desperate to add attacking reinforcements, and Vargas would be a significant addition if they can get a deal done.
