TEAMtalk reports that Leeds are holding internal discussions over a January move for RB Leipzig centre-back El Chadaille Bitshiabu, and that West Ham are also keen. The report adds Leeds believe the Red Bull connection could help them win the race if they decide to make an approach, and Leipzig are reluctant to sell but open to a loan.
Fabrizio Romano has said the 20-year-old wants to leave Leipzig and Premier League clubs have enquired after only three Bundesliga appearances this season.
Leeds enter the window on a four-game Premier League unbeaten run, including a win over Chelsea and a fightback draw with Liverpool. That form could make Elland Road more attractive to potential arrivals.
Daniel Farke’s switch to a 3-5-2 has pushed Jaka Bijol up the pecking order and left Sebastiaan Bornauw as the only back-up in central defence. Koln are also keen to sign Bornauw.
Even so, there are doubts over how much playing time Bitshiabu would get behind Joe Rodon, Pascal Struijk and Bijol. Bornauw could also argue he is first in line if injuries or suspensions strike.
The 49ers may still look for another centre-back in January to fit the 3-5-2, but any arrival might have to accept a back-up role.
