Leeds United transfers, Trafford deal close, Delap not pursued, Brandt offer remains | OneFootball

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Leeds United remain very close to finalising a £40m deal for Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford, 23, formerly of Burnley. The move is not complete, but the mood is positive that it will be. Completing it would set a new club record.

Trafford is currently on a FIFA mandated post World Cup holiday, due to end after August 8. Leeds set a precedent with the £34m signing of Tarik Muharemovic, who paused his break to undergo a medical, then flew back to resume it.

A goalkeeper was a priority this summer and, once secured, United expect to add a back-up keeper, a centre forward and extra left-back cover. They admire Carlos Espi, 21, who scored 13 in 27 for Levante, though no move has been made. They are looking at younger options up front and are not pursuing Liam Delap.

Two offers remain on the table. Leeds told Southampton last week that their bid for midfielder Shea Charles was their best and final, and there is no suggestion it has been accepted. An offer to free agent Julian Brandt also stands, after his father visited Thorp Arch for talks.

On potential outgoings, Valencia’s initial valuation of Largie Ramazani is far from what Leeds would accept, yet a compromise remains possible to return the winger to Mestalla after last season’s loan.
