Leeds United’s Gabriel Gudmundsson returned from injury for Sweden in a 2-2 draw with Greece, gaining valuable World Cup minutes.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the 27-year-old had been sidelined since a hamstring injury in Leeds’ FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea on April 26, missing the final four Premier League games, yet he was called into Sweden’s squad.

He missed Monday’s 3-1 defeat in Oslo, was then confirmed to return by head coach Graham Potter, and started at Stockholm’s Strawberry Arena in the final warm-up.

Used at left wing-back, he logged 64 minutes before Elliot Stroud replaced him with the game at 1-1, Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres having cancelled out Kostas Tsimikas’s early strike.

Gustaf Nilsson made it 2-1 soon after, but Giorgos Masouras equalised in the 95th minute, leaving Sweden winless across two warm-ups.

Gudmundsson will hope his run-out strengthens his case to start, while Potter said he still has decisions to make and wants competition alongside stability.

Sweden face Tunisia in Guadalupe, Mexico on June 15, the Netherlands in Houston on June 20, then Ao Tanka’s Japan in Arlington on June 26.
