Left-back hits impressive milestone for Corinthians in the 2026 season

On the night of last Saturday (28), Corinthians faced Novorizontino at the Jorge Ismael de Biasi Stadium, known as Jorjão, in the semifinals of the 2026 Campeonato Paulista, and ended up being defeated 1-0. Despite the elimination, left-back Matheus Bidu reached an impressive milestone for the club this season. That’s because the number 21 was the first outfield player on the team to surpass 1,000 minutes played in the 2026 season.

The statistic was released by the Fiel Imprensa profile on X, formerly Twitter. So far this season, Matheus Bidu has played in 13 of the team’s 15 matches, having scored one goal and provided one assist. The player is one of the pillars of the offensive play of coach Dorival Júnior’s team, which relies heavily on play down the flanks as one of its main weapons on the pitch.

This year, the left-back only missed the 1-0 away win over Velo Clube in the first phase of the Campeonato Paulista, as well as the 1-1 draw against Cruzeiro at Mineirão in the fourth round of the Brasileirão. According to the portal’s data, the first Corinthians player to reach this milestone in 2025 was striker Yuri Alberto, on March 12, in a match against Barcelona of Ecuador in the Pré-Libertadores.

Matheus Bidu was signed by Corinthians at the start of 2023 from Guarani, Campinas. In 2022, he had stood out for Cruzeiro during the campaign that saw the Minas Gerais team promoted to the national top flight the following year. When he arrived at Parque São Jorge, he came to compete for the position with Fábio Santos, who was nearing the end of his career at the time. His first season in the Corinthians shirt was marked by ups and downs, spending more time on the bench than on the field.

At the start of 2024, he was out of the plans of then Corinthians coach Mano Menezes, being placed on a release list and consequently training separately. He was not registered for that year’s Campeonato Paulista. Still in that season, under Argentine coach Ramón Díaz, he bounced back and finished the year as a starter—playing an important role in the team’s surge in the 2024 Brasileirão (from the relegation zone to the Pré-Libertadores and a spot in the 2025 Copa do Brasil).

After starting last year once again with ups and downs, he reestablished himself as the starting left-back under coach Dorival Júnior, becoming one of the most consistent players on the team since the coach’s arrival in late April last year. Wearing the Corinthians shirt, he has scored nine goals and provided nine assists, as well as winning three titles: Campeonato Paulista (2025), Copa do Brasil (2025), and Supercopa do Brasil (2026).

After being eliminated in the semifinals of the Paulistão, Corinthians continues to prepare for the rest of the season. Next Wednesday (11), the Alvinegro will host Coritiba at Neo Química Arena at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), for the fifth round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
