Legendary Inter President Massimo Moratti remains in hospital, but is no longer intubated, as he is now breathing autonomously.

The 80-year-old was taken into intensive care at the Istituto Humanitas di Rozzano in Milan on Wednesday with significant breathing difficulties caused by pneumonia.

A heavy smoker for most of his life, he was intubated for several days to help his breathing.

According to Sport Mediaset and Tuttomercatoweb, Moratti was extubated this morning, a sign he is on the mend.

Doctors were clear that he was never in a life-threatening situation during this health scare.

The Inter icon, who celebrated his 80th birthday in May, was also able to speak for a few minutes to his wife Milly, sister Bedy, and his children.

He had also undergone angioplasty surgery on his heart in 2023.

An Inter supporter since childhood, when his father Angelo was in charge of the club that won the European Cup in the 1960s, Massimo Moratti took over ownership from Ernesto Pellegrini in 1995.

He was at the helm for the Treble in 2010, winning the Champions League, Scudetto and Coppa Italia in a single season under coach Jose Mourinho.

In total, Moratti won 16 trophies at Inter before selling the club to Erick Thohir in 2013.
