Leicester City agree deal to sign Montpellier striker Stephy Mavididi | OneFootball

Leicester City have reached an agreement with Montpellier to complete the signing of English striker Stephy Mavididi, according to Foot Mercato.

The Foxes were expected to fork out a little more than the €6 million Montpellier paid to sign Mavididi from the Juventus academy in 2020.

It has now been confirmed that Leicester will part ways with a reported €7.5m to complete the deal, while the Ligue 1 club will also pocket 10% of his future transfer fee.

Mavididi is expected to have his medical examinations with the Foxes tomorrow before the transfer is officially announced by both clubs.

The former Arsenal youngster will leave Montpellier after racking up 98 appearances for the club, contributing 21 goals and five assists.

His transfer comes off the back of a massively underwhelming campaign where he netted just four goals and two assists in 27 appearances across all competitions.

The former England under-20 international is expected to join Leicester in the coming days, having agreed to a four-year contract with the Championship club.

Mavididi is set to become the fourth signing of the summer transfer window for Leicester following the arrivals of Mads Hermansen, Conor Coady and Harry Winks.

He could replace Kelechi Iheanacho, who has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League this summer.

The Nigerian international centre-forward has one year left on his contract with the Foxes, who are willing to cut ties with him this summer rather than lose him for free next year.

There are also several Premier League clubs interested in capturing Iheanacho’s signature, but the striker is considering all his options before deciding.

The 26-year-old made 35 appearances across all competitions for Leicester last season, contributing eight goals and five assists.

Five of his goals came in the Premier League, and he finished the season as Leicester’s third-highest goalscorer behind Harvey Barnes and James Maddison.
