Leicester City and Arsenal are in talks over 16-year-old winger Jeremy Monga. The Leicester teenager is closing in on a move to the Premier League champions after over a year with the senior squad.

Arsenal are understood to have had an opening bid rejected last week. The Athletic reports that discussions have advanced to direct negotiations, with Monga preferring the Emirates to Manchester United and Newcastle.

Previous conversations have centred on a fee of £10m to £15m. Any agreement is likely to be parked until after 10 July, when Monga turns 17 and his first professional contract at the King Power Stadium becomes active.

Unlike the exits of Trey Nyoni to Liverpool and Tyrese Noubissie to Manchester City, Leicester are due to receive a fee. His one-year scholarship signed last summer is understood to be significant in that.

Monga featured regularly in the Championship last season and scored one goal. A Leicester academy product since the age of eight, he could become the third tier’s most expensive departure.

Recent benchmarks include Mark McGuinness moving from Luton Town to Sheffield United for around £10m last summer, with Fabian Delph to Aston Villa in 2009 for £8m and Ademola Lookman to Everton for £7.5m.
