Leicester City are weighing up an ambitious move for Bristol City frontman Emil Riis, as Russell Martin looks to add more firepower to his Foxes squad ahead of the transfer deadline on September 1.

Leicester have fallen victim to a very disjointed summer, with a lot of uncertainty surrounding who will be staying or leaving the King Power Stadium throughout the duration of the transfer window.

Russell Martin's side are yet to get their first win under their belts back in League One and currently reside in the relegation zone with two points from their opening three games, most recently drawing 0-0 with MK Dons on Saturday.

However, that draw at Milton Keynes was, mainly, what the new Leicester boss will want to see from his side as the campaign goes on. The Foxes had 76% possession, 24 shots and seven on target, but couldn't find that winning goal.

Leicester will have an onus on bolstering their squad even further before the deadline, as some more of the remaining players from their recent double relegation side seek a late exit.

However, adding a striker will be right at the top of the list, with Bobby Decordova-Reid being handed the line-leading role in the early stages, while Bosnian Admiral Bristic gets to grips with the league.

According to Pete O'Rourke, the Foxes are targetting Bristol City's Emil Riis to help strengthen that position.

Riis is out of favour at Ashton Gate, following a productive summer window which has seen the 28-year-old quickly fall down the pecking order due to the arrivals of Dom Ballard and Lorent Tolaj.

The former Preston North End man scored nine times in the second tier in his debut campaign for the Robins after leaving Deepdale last summer, but has only featured from the bench twice under Michael Skubala and wasn't included in the squad at all in their win over Portsmouth on Saturday.

Reports elsewhere today have stated that the towering Dane has been the subject of offers from Championship sides, but the League One outfit are seemingly keen to flex their muscles and land him ahead of them.

Riis has never played below the Championship in England and, at his best, has proven to be a solid goal threat with a double-digit output during his time in the second tier.

Therefore, the prospect of bringing him down to League One at the age of 28, when most players reach their traditional primes, is something that a lot of Leicester fans are getting excited about.

"We've realised Reid can't be a backup striker and is better behind the striker, same for [Liam] Cullen. Him, a DM and at least one more CB, and it's a good window. Page needs to stay tho," another fan commented, outlining that a couple more will be needed in the next 24 hours or so.

But, as far as deals to kick off those final days of the window go, Riis would be a more than acceptable option at the top end of the pitch.

There's no doubting that the start to the campaign on the field has been far from acceptable at the King Power Stadium this season, with draws to newly promoted sides combining with a home loss to Burton Albion.

But to bring in someone like Riis, who has proven to be a goalscorer in the Championship, to lead the line in League One, would reinforce many pre-season beliefs that Leicester can be a force to be reckoned with this season.

There was always going to be a bit of a rough transition as the Foxes dealt with mass departures, teething issues surrounding a new style under Russell Martin and the bedding in of young players from the academy.

Once the transfer window is closed, the head coach will know exactly who he is dealing with between now and January, and a head of steam can start to be built. With signings like Riis and others likely to come, too, there could be little stopping them from climbing up the division.
