Leicester City are interested in signing Crystal Palace youngster Justin Devenny.

Leicester City will play League One football for just the second time in the club's history this season, after they suffered back-to-back relegations over the last two years.

The Foxes endured a miserable campaign in the Championship last season, which saw them handed a mid-season points deduction and subsequently drop into the bottom three.

Just 10 years after their remarkable Premier League win, Leicester find themselves playing host to League One football, after what's been a dramatic fall from grace, particularly over the past two years.

It's now set to be a summer of change at the King Power Stadium, with Russell Martin appointed as their new manager to oversee what will be one of the biggest rebuilding jobs in English football.

With plenty of incomings and outgoings expected in the squad, Leicester fans will hope their relegation to the third tier will be the start of a new dawn at the club, following a few painful years.

Plenty of players have already been linked with a move to the former Premier League winners this summer, including legendary striker Jamie Vardy, who eventually ruled out a move to his former employers.

With midfielder Jordan James departing the club and his return highly improbable, the engine room is a key area for Martin to strengthen in the transfer window, and reports suggest the Foxes already have a replacement in mind.

According to reports from journalist Alan Nixon via his Patreon page on Sunday morning, Leicester are in pursuit of Crystal Palace youngster Justin Devenny to add some much-needed quality to their midfield unit.

Devenny, 22, is on the fringes of the Palace squad, and could be allowed to leave this summer, with Championship clubs and Leicester all reportedly interested in signing him.

Nixon stated that despite the Foxes being in selling mode right now, they are willing to cough up the cash to bring the Northern Irishman to the King Power Stadium, as they see him as the perfect box-to-box player thanks to his ability and work rate.

Interestingly, Devenny made plenty of appearances for the Eagles last term, with 32 outings to his name, including four in their victorious Conference League campaign.

Justin Devenny signing would be a statement of intent by Leicester City

It's fair to say that the news of Leicester's interest in Devenny may come as a shock, given his involvement in the Premier League side's setup over the last two years.

At 22, the midfielder already has 60 senior appearances to his name, 44 of which have come in the English top flight, so convincing him to drop all the way down to League One would be an impressive feat for the Foxes.

However, with his future at Selhurst Park reportedly uncertain and Leicester viewing him as the ideal candidate to center their rebuild around, it could be a tempting move for Devenny, despite the drop in level.

If Leicester do land the Northern Irishman's signature this summer, it will certainly go down as a statement of intent, given his Premier League experience at such a young age, and high ceiling.
