Talk of a consortium ready to purchase Leicester City is set to be welcomed by supporters.

It looks as though the very successful but now desperate era of King Power owning Leicester City is coming to an end – and that is something set to be welcomed by supporters.

King Power took charge of Leicester in August 2010 with The Foxes expected to be in the hunt for Championship promotion, which they came close to with a play-off semi-final loss in the 2012-13 campaign after back-to-back top half finishes.

The following season, though, saw Leicester romp to the Championship title under the management of Nigel Pearson and with the backing of their Thai owners.

The next few years don’t need to much story telling about as Leicester managed to survive relegation with a remarkable run of form at the back end of the season before one of the most remarkable title victories in football history, let alone English football history, in the 2015-16 season.

The last ten years have seen Leicester attempt but fail to establish themselves as regulars at the top end of English football, succumbing to back-to-back relegations in the last couple of seasons that has left them now back in League One, below where King Power started from.

Leicester takeover would be welcomed by supporters

The running of the club has been heavily criticised for a while now and, as they attempt to reclaim their spot back in the Championship this season, there is talk that King Power will now cash in on the club for £220 million.

Amid those reports, there are fresh suggestions that a consortium led by Neil Lal are interested in purchasing City – something that FLW’s Leicester Fan Pundit Jamie Preston would welcome.

Jamie says: “To be fair, I had never heard of Neil Lal and his consortium until this (Monday) morning but if the King Power are looking to sell and want to sell it for £220 million, as it is being reported, and he is ready to buy it then yes, by all means.

“If we can get a buyer that is willing to put money into the club and take us back to the heights that we know, just get us back in the Premier League then that would be great, that would be fantastic.

“Any buyer that wants to buy us and is willing to buy us then the fans will like.

“I think that King Power now are coming to the end and they have drawn a line in the sand and they don’t want to go any further.

“Neil Lal and a consortium, I think would be pretty good for us.”

Leicester should be good enough to challenge for the League One title

The business that Leicester have done in recent years has been disastrous, naturally. It has led them to League One and a position where almost a complete reset is required.

Despite that, following the appointment of former Rangers and Southampton boss Russell Martin, they should still be in a position where they are ready to challenge for the League One title.

Their incoming business this summer has been impressive with goalkeepers Alex McCarthy and Franco Ravizolli arriving alongside attackers Conor Chaplin, Wes Burns, Liam Cullen and Admir Bristric.

Their season began with a frustrating 1-1 draw against Notts County at Meadow Lane with Conor Grant punishing a lapse from Australia international centre-back Harry Souttar.
