Jamie Vardy may not be able to play in Leicester's 5000/1 anniversary match on May 30 if Cremonese survive in Serie A

Despite a truly disastrous season that ended in relegation to League One, Leicester City will have some cause for celebration at the end of the month, as they remember their miraculous Premier League-winning campaign, a decade on.

It's been 10 years since the Foxes defied the odds and created what is highly regarded as one of the greatest sporting achievements of all time, winning the Premier League at 5000/1 odds.

Therefore, Leicester have organised the 5000/1 anniversary match to take place on May 30, seeing a team of Foxes legends take on an All-Star XI in an event to raise funds through the Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Foundation.

Numerous legends from that 2015/16 title-winning campaign will be present and playing together once more, acting as a bit of a release from the current disappointment that surrounds the King Power Stadium as they gear up for a third-tier return.

But perhaps the main star in that incredible season won't be able to play, depending on how his own season ends over in Italy, according to Leicester Live.

Jamie Vardy may not be able to play for Leicester City in the 5000/1 charity match

Jamie Vardy's 13-year stint at Leicester saw him rise to become one of the biggest legends at the club, being the talisman throughout their title wins, domestic cup triumphs and European journeys.

The 39-year-old bid an emotional farewell last summer following his 500th game in a Foxes shirt against Ipswich Town, in which he scored his 200th goal, too.

He moved over to Italy and signed with newly-promoted Serie A side Cremonese. Fast-forward to the present day, I Grigiorossi are embroiled in a battle to avoid an immediate relegation leading into the final day of the season.

Vardy's side are sitting in the relegation zone, but have won their last two games to give themselves a fighting chance this coming Sunday. The 39-year-old has scored in both of those wins, including the only goal last time out against Udinese.

Cremonese sit one point behind Lecce and can escape relegation if they beat Champions League-chasing Como, and their nearest rivals fail to beat Genoa. If the two finish level on points, they'll play a one-off relegation play-off to see who goes down, which will likely fall on that anniversary game.

But, even if Vardy leads his side to victory, and his season ends this Sunday, he may not be permitted to play in the game, either.

Leicester Live have stated that, given the nature of the 39-year-old's contract with the Italian side, a one-year extension will be triggered if they stay up, and if he's still under contract with Cremonese, it would prevent him from playing in the charity match.

And to make matters worse, Italian outlets are reporting that Vardy is currently battling injury, so it may be a long shot to see him playing again at the King Power next Saturday, regardless of the outcome of this Sunday's Serie A closer.

Jamie Vardy's absence in the charity match would be a massive blow for Leicester City fans

There hasn't been much to smile about at the King Power at all in the past two years, and a lot of Leicester fans have been leaning on this charity match as a way to reminisce and forget about the situation of the club currently.

If the biggest fan favourite to come out of that title-winning team is ultimately unable to play due to contractual obligations elsewhere, it would be a massive shame for them.

But if Cremonese do ultimately succumb to relegation, then the 39-year-old will effectively be a free agent, and, if he's fit enough to play, could head back and celebrate the anniversary with his former teammates.

No one will be openly wishing that their former player gets another relegation on his CV, this time in Italy, but there may be some quiet celebration among Leicester fans if Marco Giampaolo's side does not survive this Sunday.
