Leicester City ‘in talks’ to sign free agent Dai Cornell after Stolarczyk ACL injury | OneFootball

According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, Leicester City are in talks to sign free agent goalkeeper Dai Cornell after an ACL injury to Jakub Stolarczyk.

Cornell, 35, left Preston North End at the end of last season after eight Championship appearances and one clean sheet, and has been unattached since June.

Stolarczyk suffered the injury during City's 2-0 win over Plymouth Argyle earlier this month and has since had successful surgery. He is expected to miss the season after briefly becoming first choice for MK Dons away and Plymouth at home, following a strong Carabao Cup display at Ipswich Town.

Alex McCarthy has reclaimed the starting role, with summer signing Franco Ravizzoli as back-up. McCarthy kept a clean sheet against Plymouth, then conceded seven goals across two games, a 4-0 home defeat to Oxford United and a 4-3 win at Stockport County.

With Stevie Bausor on loan at Slough Town, 17-year-old Freddie Marson, a 2023 arrival from Mansfield who trained with the first team in pre-season, is next in line after starting the last four for the Under 21s. Martin is hoping to add experience, with Cornell targeted as a potential third choice after four years in the second tier at Preston.

Previously with Northampton Town, Ipswich Town and Peterborough United, the former Swansea trainee has over 200 senior appearances. He turned down a one-year extension at Preston and has awaited his next move since leaving in June.

Leicester visit Barnsley in League One on Saturday as they look to build on the 4-3 win at Stockport, who many have tipped to challenge for promotion again this season.
