Leicester City’s injury problems worsened in the 2-0 defeat to Charlton, with Hamza Choudhury suffering a knee issue and defensive options thinning.

The vice-captain lasted less than half an hour before Harry Winks replaced him and he left the King Power Stadium on crutches. According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, he will have a scan early next week to assess the extent of the damage.

Interim boss Andy King said the midfielder was in a knee brace and he does not expect a quick turnaround.

City are short in midfield after Boubakary Soumare’s sale, with Oliver Skipp, Jordan James and Aaron Ramsey all missing the Charlton match through injury. Skipp should return against Birmingham next weekend, while James and Ramsey are likely out until March. Midfield is now the transfer priority, with City making a move for Manchester City attacking midfielder Divine Mukasa and interest reported in Southampton’s Joe Aribo.

Numbers are thin at centre-back too. Wout Faes has been loaned and Harry Souttar is injured, while Caleb Okoli faces a one-match ban and Jannik Vestergaard is being managed day to day, which ruled him out against Charlton.

As it stands, Ben Nelson and full-back Bade Aluko are the options to start at centre-back against Birmingham unless a defender arrives, with links to Newcastle’s Jamaal Lascelles emerging in the past 24 hours.
