Leicester City’s squad have made their feelings known after the club were docked six points by the EFL for breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules for 2023-24, a penalty that leaves them 20th in the Championship.
The club said in a statement that it is considering an appeal and described the recommendation as disproportionate, noting the Independent Commission had significantly reduced the unprecedented scale of the punishment originally sought by the Premier League. It also welcomed the decision to assess FY24 compliance over 36 months, providing certainty for FY25.
The panel found no aggravating factors and acknowledged an improving financial trend in FY24. The decision is being reviewed and options considered, with a commitment to constructive engagement and fair, proportionate processes.
Captain Ricardo Pereira posted a montage on Instagram, including images of players in a huddle on the pitch and celebrations with supporters at the King Power Stadium, captioned with the club motto ‘Foxes never quit’ in capital letters.
His post was reshared by teammates Abdul Fatawu, Caleb Okoli and Jakub Stolarczyk. City sit just above the relegation zone on goal difference with 16 matches remaining.
