A group of Leicester City supporters protested against the club’s ownership ahead of their six-pointer at home to Norwich City in light of a points deduction by the EFL.

The Foxes began the day 22nd in the Championship, three weeks after the club’s owners King Power – a Thai travel retail group – were deducted six points for being in breach of the 2023/24 season’s profit and sustainability rules.

The former Premier League champions exceeded the £83m losses threshold by £20.8m over the three-year assessment period, prompting an independent panel into taking swift action.

Both Leicester and the Premier League have appealed the ruling, with representatives of England’s top flight unhappy with the panel’s decision not to impose a sanction on the club for the late submission of its annual accounts.

The scenes mirrored demonstrations by Norwich fans earlier in the season, after the club had lost 2-0 to Hull City – what was their sixth successive defeat at home – and found themselves stranded in the bottom three.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, new Leicester manager Gary Rowett said that fans have the freedom to voice their concerns as they desire, wishing that they would all be in the stadium to support their side in crisis.

He said: “I think that however everyone feels and everyone has that right to do whatever they want to do.

“I think the main bit for me really, and I spoke about it, the only way we win games of football and the only way we improve the situation is if we’re galvanised and all together.

“So hopefully by the time the game kicks off, everyone’s in the stadium, everyone’s looking positive and trying to help each other to achieve the result we want. I think that’s the main thing.”

Leicester, who await the decision as to their appeal against the point deduction, could end the weekend four points from safety if West Brom beat Oxford United in a six pointer of their own later this afternoon.
