Nathan Opoku has left Leicester City to join League Two Northampton Town on a permanent deal.

According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, the 25-year-old departs without a senior competitive appearance and links up with fellow Foxes loanee Logan Briggs.

Opoku signed for Leicester in January 2023 after impressing with Ventura County Fusion, then immediately moved on loan to sister club OH Leuven, where he scored five in 28 appearances.

He suffered a double leg fracture in April 2024, returned to Leicester, then joined Newport County on loan. After a strong first half, he extended his stay at Rodney Parade and helped Christian Fuchs’ side remain in the EFL with six goals.

This summer he featured in Russell Martin’s first team during pre-season, scoring in wins over Bristol Rovers and Burton Albion, before returning to the Under-21s for a Premier League Cup victory against Plymouth Argyle.

He missed Tuesday’s National League Cup penalty shoot-out defeat to Sutton United ahead of the move.

Leicester have added Admir Bristric and Liam Cullen to their attack this summer, with Bobby De Cordova-Reid also an option up front.

His departure should allow 18-year-old Lorenz Hutchinson to enjoy a full Under-21s campaign, after the England Under-19 international scored four in 11 league appearances last term.
