“It is a real pleasure for any coach to be able to train players like Lena Ostermeier. She has an impressive professional attitude and embodies that professionalism every day, so she really is a role model, particularly for younger players. The fact that she is two-footed means she can be deployed flexibly in any position within the back four,” says coach Markus Högner, looking forward to the 29-year-old’s return.

In 2013, Högner promoted Ostermeier – then aged 16 – from the SGS Essen B-junior girls’ team to the Bundesliga squad. At Hafenstraße, she developed into an indispensable first-team regular and made 241 competitive appearances (5 goals) in the Bundesliga and the cup, meaning she ranks second on the list of appearances in SGS Essen’s history.

For Lena Ostermeier, the move marks the achievement of a childhood dream: “I’m from Dortmund, I grew up with BVB and it was clear to me that I would have to play for this club at some point. The club has reached a top level of professionalism. I want to be part of it, take the next step with BVB and help the club move forward.”
