Last night’s Germany U21 fixture against Malta in Fürth proved a mostly non-competitive affair. Antonio Di Salvo’s charges were able to make short work of their guests with a dominant 6-0 victory. The goals, the manner in which they were scored, and especially which players got their name on the scoresheet made for an essentially perfect evening.
Germany U21 captain Tom Bischof – who had debuted for the U21s tepidly during the recent October international break– recorded a hat trick. Bischof’s Bayern Munich teammate and celebrated fellow German phenom Lennart Karl bagged a brace of his own. Karl naturally couldn’t contain his elation when conducting his post-match interview with ran.de.
“Sure enough, it went perfectly again,” Karl told ran. “U-21 debut, two goals, a very good performance from the team, a good performance from me. It’s just fun to play with this group. Karl’s famous “healthy arrogance“ was once again on display during both his on-pitch performance and sideline commentary. The 17-year-old nevertheless did demonstrate some maturity when allowed to speak for a little while longer. At least the teenage talent knows what remains a priority in his career.
“Of course, I’m in top form right now,” Karl went on to say. “Everything is going well at Bayern and everything is going well here [with the U21s]. I’m aware of the hype, of course, but I’m not paying attention to what things like what is being written on Instagram.“
