Lens edged Auxerre 1-0 on Saturday, with Matthieu Udol outstanding down the left while Florian Thauvin endured a poor night.

According to L'Équipe, Thauvin’s touch and decision-making deserted him, he won one of 10 duels and lost possession 21 times, a match-high.

Early on, Sinaly Diomandé prevented Adrien Thomasson from testing Léon at 21 minutes, then was booked three minutes later. Thauvin shot off target at 26 minutes and overhit a cross at 34, before a heavy touch at 39. Rayan Fofana was penalised after a duel with Diomandé at 44.

After the break, Udol twice cut inside only to be blocked at 48 minutes, and Fofana was fouled by Akpa when through at 51. Thomasson failed to hit the target from an Udol cross at 54, before Fofana and Thomasson were replaced by Sima and Sangaré at 57.

Malang Sarr saw a fierce strike blocked at 61, Thauvin failed to control Udol’s centre at 64, then Sarr crossed for Wesley Saïd to chest and finish right-footed for the winner at 65. Saïd made way for Guilavogui a minute later.

Thauvin later missed the target after creating space at 73. Kévin Danois impressed for Auxerre before making way for Matondo at 76. Sangaré should have added a second at 82, Thauvin went off for Sotoca at 86, and Sangaré spurned another chance at 89.

Udol and Sarr were marked seven, Saïd and Danois six. Thauvin, Fofana and Thomasson received three, while Diomandé was given four.
