Lens beat Auxerre 5-2 at Stade Bollaert-Delelis as Florian Thauvin converted two penalties and Christ Makosso saw red, lifting the hosts to second on opening day in Ligue 1.

Thauvin put Lens ahead from the spot in the 12th minute after Arthur Piedfort handled. Auxerre's task got harder when Makosso was sent off (35.).
