Leon Bailey is moving closer to a switch to Hull City, with Sky Sports reporting the newly promoted club are close to agreeing a permanent deal for the 28-year-old Jamaica international.

He has one year left on his Aston Villa contract and spent the first half of last season on loan at Roma before being recalled amid an injury crisis.

The winger was omitted from Villa’s pre-season tour of Indonesia. The proposed agreement would include a long-term contract.

Villa are also exploring a deal for Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson, and are said to be in direct talks as Unai Emery seeks to bolster his attack after Morgan Rogers’ move to Stamford Bridge.

Any move is complicated after Alejandro Garnacho joined Villa on loan, with an obligation to buy that will be triggered once certain conditions are met.

That arrangement means Villa cannot sign another player on loan from Chelsea this summer.

Chelsea are valuing Jackson at up to £65 million. The Senegal international joined the Blues from Villarreal for around £32 million in 2023 before spending last season on loan at Bayern Munich, where he scored 11 goals in 33 appearances.
