Leonardo Jardim hands Daniel Sales chance during Data-FIFA break at Flamengo | OneFootball

Flamengo returned to training on Tuesday 22 after beating Bragantino on Sunday 20 in the Brasileirão. According to Coluna Do Fla, Leonardo Jardim drafted Daniel Sales into the senior group to cover Varela’s Uruguay call-up during the Data-FIFA break.

Sales, a youth product who has been rotating with the first team, gets another chance to impress and push for a permanent spot. Earlier this year, under Filipe Luís, he featured in the state clássico against Vasco, filling in at left-back and performing well.

Despite those minutes, he remains among the most experienced players in Flamengo’s under-20 side led by Marcelo Salazar. This season he was involved in the age-group Copa Libertadores campaign in Quito, Ecuador.

In the last transfer window, European interest emerged. Porto made a proposal, but Flamengo ended talks after judging the offer too low.

Varela is not the only absentee. Arrascaeta is also with Diego Forlán’s Uruguay, while Pedro and Samuel Lino are with Brazil and Anthony Valencia is on Ecuador duty.

During this extended break, Flamengo plan to help players recover from recent physical and mental load. Jardim also aims to fine-tune the side for decisive matches ahead.

The club are monitoring Ayrton Lucas after a muscle injury against Bragantino, and he remains under medical supervision. Plata is also being assessed after reporting pain. Flamengo return to action on eight October away to Santos in the Brasileirão, kick-off 19:30 Brasília time at Vila Belmiro.
