Corinthians beat Gotham 1-0 in the FIFA Champions Cup, the women’s Club World Cup, with a standout defensive display as Letícia Teles started alongside Thaís Ferreira.

According to Meu Timao, Teles said the performance went beyond what they had anticipated from a week of preparation and stressed the need to keep the same intensity heading into the final. She spoke in the mixed zone at the Gtech Community Stadium in England.

She noted the squad had worked hard, knew Gotham were strong and felt their own quality showed. The plan, she added, was to rest and enjoy the win briefly, then switch focus to the final, which they expect to be difficult, while feeling ready for it.

Teles joined Corinthians at the start of 2025. She made 23 appearances, 19 as a starter, and won the Brasileiro and the Libertadores, but was largely considered a reserve behind options including Thaís Ferreira, Mariza, Thaís Regina and Erika.

Her starting role at this tournament followed Mariza’s move to Tigres of México, a right fibula fracture for Thaís Regina, and new signing Agustina Barroso being sidelined with a recurring contracture linked to a scar in the left soleus muscle.

Corinthians face Arsenal in the final on Sunday 1 February at 15:00 Brasília time, at the Emirates Stadium in London.
