Norwich suffered a fourth home defeat in a row on Wednesday evening
Liam Manning has accepted that Norwich City’s results aren’t good enough despite a positive performance against West Brom on Wednesday night.
The Canaries are really struggling for results so far this season, in particular at Carrow Road, which has put the new manager under some early pressure.
The ex-Bristol City boss joined the Norfolk outfit in the summer, but has yet to oversee a positive result at home, with the team losing on all four occasions so far this term.
While Norwich have picked up some points away from home, supporters will still be frustrated to see their side losing every game when they play at Carrow Road.
A first half goal from Josh Maja was enough to seal all three points for the Baggies on Wednesday night, handing a fourth loss in a row at home to Manning’s side.
Manning has defended the performance in the defeat to West Brom, but admitted that the result simply wasn’t good enough.
He has acknowledged that it is a results business, indicating he is aware that the pressure he’s under to turn things around at Carrow Road.
“Not good enough result, first and foremost, that’s the business that we’re in, so the result is hugely disappointing,” said Manning, via Pink Un on X.
“It hurts.
“People won’t want to hear about the performance because ultimately we lost but, performance-wise, there was some much better stuff out there.”
The result has left Norwich sitting 19th in the Championship table, with eight points from a possible 24.
Next up for the Canaries is a trip to rivals Ipswich Town for the first East Anglian derby of the campaign, with the sides meeting on 5 October in a 12pm kick-off.
Supporters are divided regarding Manning’s assessment of the defeat at home to West Brom.
Some have noticed an improvement in the level of performance despite the disappointing result.
However, caveats have been made about the improvement to suggest that the bar was set quite low in their performances earlier in the season.
Meanwhile, some others have picked up on the chances they failed to convert in the 1-0 loss, even as they suggest ways the team could improve.
But, ultimately, a lot of fans have expressed their desire to see a change in the style of play as they believe the team is too passive at the moment.
It’s still early days in the season, and it’s too quick to suggest that Manning’s position at Norwich is in any kind of trouble.
But failing to get any kind of result at home is a quick way to lose the fans, as they want to see Carrow Road become a hard place for other teams to come.
Four losses from four is an abysmal record for a club of the Canaries’ stature, and an improvement must be made quickly.
The clash against Ipswich could be coming at the worst possible time for Manning, as a defeat at Portman Road will really pile on the pressure going into the international break.
