Blues have some key decisions to make as January transfer deadline approaches

Liam Rosenior says he is due to hold talks with Aaron Anselmino to discuss the defender’s situation at Chelsea, though he would not be drawn any further on Raheem Sterling’s future.

Anselmino is coming back to Stamford Bridge after the Blues triggered an option to recall him early from his season-long loan spell at Borussia Dortmund.

That decision was made on Sunday following the 20-year-old Argentine’s impressive first half of the season in Germany.

All options are currently being left on the table with regard to Anselmino’s future, and whether or not Chelsea - who have been in talks over Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet - sign a new centre-back before the January transfer window closes next week is viewed as likely to have a bearing on where he spends the second half of the campaign.

A video was posted to Dortmund's official social media accounts on Monday showing Anselmino in tears as he said goodbye to his BVB team-mates ahead of returning to west London.

“I'm due to have a conversation with Aaron,” Rosenior said at a press conference held on Tuesday night ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League match against Napoli.

“He is due back on Thursday or Friday. Hopefully from there we can make his situation clearer.”

Rosenior added: “He's had a great start to the season at Dortmund and I need to have a conversation with him about our future plans.”

There is hope from all parties that exiled Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling can leave the club in the next week, with a permanent exit preferred.

Asked whether there was a new update on Sterling’s likely next destination, Rosenior said: “Not for now.

“At the moment, I've said what I have to say on Raheem. I have huge respect for him but right now is not the right time to speak about his situation.”
