Anthony Gordon scored the only goal of the game to give Newcastle a 1-0 win and their first win at Chelsea in 14 years.

For the Blues it was yet another home defeat, and not the response they wanted or needed after the 5-2 defeat to PSG in midweek.

Liam Rosenior praises Robert Sanchez performance

Perhaps surprisingly Rosenior only made two changes to the side which lost to PSG as Alejandro Garnacho replaced the suspended Pedro Neto, whilst Sanchez returned in goal.

Filip Jorgensen missed out on the squad due to a groin issue, but there was nothing Sanchez could do about the goal.

Sanchez made a couple of good saves, and it’ll be interesting to see if he starts in the second leg against PSG on Tuesday night.

It was arguably one of Chelsea’s worst performances of the season at such an important stage of the campaign, with not a single player putting in an acceptable showing.

However, Rosenior felt Sanchez played well as he praised the Spaniard and claimed he performed very well in “every aspect.”

“Filip felt his groin yesterday. He couldn’t train,” he told his post match press conference.

“I thought Rob [Sanchez] actually performed very, very well today in every aspect.

“Hopefully, Filip will be back really, really soon.”

Chelsea exposed again defensively

Despite Rosenior being impressed with Sanchez, one player who didn’t impress was Wesley Fofana, especially for his role in the goal.

Both Jamie Redknapp and Daniel Sturridge tore into Fofana, as he lacked desire to get back when chasing Gordon.

Chelsea have looked very open under Rosenior, and have kept just one clean sheet in the last 14 matches, something which needs to change quickly.
