Liam Rosenior is taking his press conference ahead of Chelsea’s game against Wolves this weekend, and while there are a few interesting things to cover, the most important updates, as always, were on the fitness of players.

Reece James and Pedro Neto missed Tuesday’s Carabao Cup second leg against Arsenal after feeling “pain” and failing late fitness tests. There was a lot of speculation that they were actually just being rested.

Rosenior’s update on them makes it sound like they should be miraculously recovered for Sunday’s game against Wolves.

Rosenior unsure on pair’s fitness – but extra caution seems unnecessary

“We don’t know yet [if they’ll be fit for Sunday]. They have training today. It’s a recovery day for the lads who played. We’ll check tomorrow.”

Even if the painful knocks they picked up are real, we still don’t expect them to miss the game this weekend. You don’t take a fitness test for a game on Tuesday if you’re not going to be fit by Sunday. So this feels more like Rosenior just being a bit cautious with his answer.

Of course it’s also possible there will be a set back – but can you really have a set-back for a knock?

The team really miss James, who is a key player on and off the ball and a leader. Neto is not in the best form, but our limited other options on the wing makes it important to get him back too.

In other news…

Liam Delap has not impressed at Chelsea overall, and a poor performance on the wing on Tuesday has raised  yet more questions. One pundit is suggesting that he should have taken a stepping stone move to a mid-table team.

Cole Palmer is in a real funk right now – you don’t have to watch much of Chelsea to see that. The stats are perhaps even more scary right now.
