Academy defender Jayden Lienou played his part on Wednesday night as Wales U19s claimed a dramatic 3–2 victory over Japan at Denbigh Town’s Central Park.

The Young Dragons saw their lead slip before substitute Cruz Allen of Derby County struck a 94th-minute winner to settle a lively contest in North Wales.

Lienou was introduced in the 56th minute, replacing Joshua Salmon with the scores level at 2–2. The 17 year old slotted into the defence and helped Wales regain their composure after an end-to-end opening hour, as both sides pushed for a decisive goal.

Wales had earlier gone ahead through Joshua Gentles and William Grainger but Japan responded with well-worked finishes of their own to leave the match finely balanced heading into the latter stages.

Lienou and his teammates now turn their attention to their next test, as Wales U19s face USA on Saturday at 2:30pm (UK time).
