Ligue 1 Predictions, Round 5

GFFN editor-in-chief Luke Entwistle, and sub-editor Bastien Cheval face off in our Ligue 1 predictions competition, which returns for the 2026/27 campaign. This season, GFFN will also be hosting guests. It’s three points for a correct score, two points for a correct score difference, and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?

Game of the week: Olympique de Marseille v Paris Saint-Germain, Sunday 19:45 (UK)

Paris Saint-Germain’s poor form at the start of the season would ordinarily give Olympique de Marseille hope heading into their most emotional game of the season as they host their fierce rivals in Le Classique at the Vélodrome. Despite PSG registering their first win of the Ligue 1 season away to Stade Brestois last weekend, Luis Enrique described it as their worst league performance of the campaign; Brest should have taken at least a point and it is only thanks to Matvey Safonov’s heroics (and some poor finishing) that they didn’t.

But OM are in a complete state of disarray. Bruno Genesio simply doesn’t have the tools at his disposal to get the results that a club like Marseille have always demanded. It isn’t just that they are on a four-game losing run in all competitions; it is also that, in those games, they have shown no signs of promise, despite Genesio’s attempts to put a positive spin on this steep decline. In this fixture last season, Marseille took all three points and were consequently briefly championed as PSG’s most likely challenger. That now feels like a long time ago. Never have PSG been stronger favourites heading into a Classique.
