Lille condemned what it called unacceptable remarks and behaviour from a small section of supporters during Saturday’s 0-2 home defeat to Rennes, the club said in a statement on Wednesday.
During the Ligue 1 match on matchday 17, some fans, notably from DVE (Dogues Virage Est), chanted material that was insulting, abusive or homophobic, aimed at the media, the LFP, the Lensois and the referee.
The behaviour was denounced with the greatest firmness, deemed contrary to the club’s values of respect, inclusion and conviviality, with sincere apologies offered to those affected.
Insults, discriminatory remarks and attacks on personal dignity were described as unjustifiable. Cooperation with the relevant authorities will follow, with necessary sanctions to be taken.
Lille are due to host OL on Sunday at 21.00 in the Coupe de France round of 32.
