In a recent report, The Northern Echo mentioned that Sunderland are set to complete the capture of Toulouse left-back Dayann Methalie. It is understood that the French talent will undergo his medical at the Academy of Light before completing his move to join the Black Cats.

Methalie’s Impressive Season In Ligue 1

Methalie had a solid campaign at the French club recently as he produced a series of impressive performances on the left side of their backline. The 20-year-old registered two goals and two assists in 30 matches for Toulouse last season across various competitions.

The French sensation is currently among the best young full-backs in Ligue 1. Thus, it is no wonder that the Black Cats are trying to get a deal over the line for him in this transfer window.

His current contract at the French club will run out in the summer of 2030. Hence, Sunderland would do well to lure him to the Stadium of Light this off-season.

Will Methalie Be A Good Signing For Sunderland Boss Regis Le Bris?

Methalie is a good tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to secure possession back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the offensive and is a good crosser as well from the wide areas.

The French sensation can even chip in by scoring and creating the odd goal for his team. Methalie is primarily a left-back but can also operate as a left-sided wide player if needed. However, there are some concerns over whether he can cope with the physical demands and high intensity of the Premier League if the Black Cats manage to sign him this off-season.

We can expect Methalie to enhance the quality of Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris’ backline. He is capable of challenging for a regular first-team spot at the Stadium of Light in the coming years.

At 20, the future looks quite promising for Methalie as long as he continues to improve with each season. He will also help the Wearside club compete across all fronts over the next few years. Hence, Methalie would be a decent signing for the Black Cats this summer.
