Lille forward Hamza Igamane sustained a knee injury during Morocco’s 0-1 Africa Cup of Nations final defeat to Senegal after extra time on Sunday.

The Morocco forward came on in the 98th minute and was withdrawn at half-time in extra time after hurting his knee.

The club said in a statement on Monday evening that he has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, adding it will support him through his recovery to see him return alongside his team-mates.

Head coach Bruno Genesio, along with Morocco boss Walid Regragui, will be without the striker for many months.

The diagnosis matches the initial fears after his withdrawal.
