Bruno Genesio described Lille OSC’s level of play in 2026 as “scandalous” after Thursday night’s UEFA Europa League defeat to Celta Vigo (2-1). That defeat came despite the La Liga side going down to 10-men in the first-half.
“Either we’re not preparing properly, and that’s my fault. Or we think we’re playing in a six-a-side tournament, and that’s also my responsibility. We have to stop. We have to take responsibility. It’s not a coincidence. Our performances since the start of the year have been bordering on scandalous,” said the LOSC manager after the loss. It was a loss that came after a 3-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain over the weekend. The previous weekend, his side were knocked out of the Coupe de France by Olympique Lyonnais (1-2) and the week before that, they lost 2-0 at home to Stade Rennais.
Genesio vaguely alluded to “everyone taking responsibility” in the coming days, and he included himself in that. RMC Sport now report that Genesio asked to leave the club on Thursday night, following the latest defeat. That request, the publication adds, was rejected by the club’s president, Olivier Létang. Genesio is, therefore, expected to take charge of Les Dogues when they face RC Strasbourg Alsace on Sunday night.
