Lionel Messi tried to follow the match officials after Inter Miami’s MLS opener defeat to Los Angeles FC, but he will not face punishment.

Unhappy with some decisions, the Argentine moved towards a room he seemed not permitted to enter, with team-mate Luis Suarez holding him back. He briefly stepped inside before leaving, still trailed by the Uruguayan. A league spokesperson told The Athletic that he had not entered a prohibited area and no rules were broken.

MLS reviewed the footage and did not find a breach.

Messi should, barring an unforeseen change, be available for Inter Miami’s trip to Orlando on 2 March.

The forward ended the night visibly frustrated as Inter Miami were beaten 0-3 by Los Angeles FC.
