Messi went into the final week of the regular season with the Golden Boot race in the balance, but the Argentine magician scored five goals in the final two games to blow his competitors out of the water before leading Miami to the club's first ever MLS Cup triumph in the postseason.

Messi becomes just the second player in league history to be crowned MVP twice after former MLS great Preki won the award in 1997 and 2003.

However, the Inter Miami star is the first player in league history to win the award in back-to-back seasons.

Messi extended his contract with Inter Miami in October, ensuring that the superstar will be in town as the club moves to Freedom Park, a new hub featuring a 25,000-seat stadium.
