Lionel Messi suffers hamstring strain, MLS start in doubt

Lionel Messi has sustained a left hamstring strain and missed Inter Miami training, leaving his availability for the MLS start in doubt.

The club said in a statement that he sat out training due to the issue in his left hamstring, and that the friendly against Independiente del Valle in Puerto Rico would be rescheduled in his absence.

Messi suffered the injury on Saturday in a 2-2 draw with Barcelona de Ecuador in Guayaquil during Inter Miami’s South American tour, when he scored his first goal of 2026.

He later posted a video addressed to supporters in Puerto Rico who had bought tickets, adding that he hopes to visit on another occasion.

The match had been set for 13 February.
