Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni has urged caution over the rapid rise of Real Madrid forward Franco Mastantuono and former Los Blancos midfielder Nico Paz, even after his team’s emphatic 6-0 win over Puerto Rico.
Speaking to the media, Scaloni praised both youngsters but made it clear that they are not yet ready for a regular starting role in the senior side.
Mastantuono, who had to leave Argentina’s training camp due to a minor muscle overload, and Paz, who currently plays for Como, were both key talking points after the match. The coach explained his stance, saying,
“They are important players for us. Both are left-footed, and they play in a similar position, although they have different characteristics. We continue to try.
“They are young people who today have no place in the starting team, but the idea is to give them minutes. Surely they will be able to live together in the future.”

At the club level, Mastantuono has quickly settled into life at Real Madrid. Under Xabi Alonso’s management, the young Argentine has shown confidence and quality, earning a consistent place in the starting XI.
His performances have impressed the coaching staff, though questions remain about how Alonso will structure the team once Jude Bellingham returns to full fitness.
Meanwhile, Nico Paz continues to shine at Como, delivering standout displays that highlight his creativity, vision, and technique. His progress has not gone unnoticed in Madrid.
Reports suggest that Real Madrid are seriously considering activating the buy-back clause included in his deal, with plans to bring him back as early as the summer of 2026.
Both players represent Argentina’s bright future and if Scaloni’s patient approach pays off, Mastantuono and Nico could form the backbone of the national team as well as Real Madrid.
