Goalscoring records for the Lionesses were broken as England thrashed Latvia 20-0 in a FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifier.
Alex Greenwood had already hit the crossbar at the Keepmoat Stadium before Beth Mead turned home a Lauren Hemp cross in little over two minutes.
Ellen White netted from 20 yards and then tucked away a ball from Georgia Stanway for her 47th goal for the Lionesses, surpassing the record held by Kelly Smith.
Mead turned inside and drilled the ball home, Lauren Hemp next registered her first goal for England when heading in a Stanway cross, before turning provider for Mead’s hat-trick goal.
Ella Toone whipped in number seven from outside the box, moments later Hemp netted another header to make it 8-0 by half-time.
The Lionesses did not ease up after the break at all, as Hemp took her tally to four and White completed her hat-trick. Alessia Russo netted a swift treble, Beth England a brace, Stanway a penalty, while there was also a goal apeice for Jill Scott, Jordan Nobbs and Jess Carter – the latter’s first at senior international level.
The scoreline easily beat the previous record of 13-0 versus Hungary in 2005.
