Manchester United conceded twice against Nottingham Forest, who are currently in the relegation zone, on Saturday.

It took a wonder strike from Amad for the Red Devils to draw level, but there are clearly chinks in the armour for Ruben Amorim to address.

Especially at the back, where Diogo Dalot had a game to forget while playing as the left wingback. Luke Shaw is having to operate as the left centre-back in the absence of Lisandro Martinez.

The Argentine’s return will offer Amorim the chance to take Dalot out of the firing line, and play Shaw out wide. And as per recent reports, the World Cup winner is closing in on a return to action following an ACL injury last season.

Lisandro Martinez closing in on a return

He has already re-joined full training, and there were suggestions that he could be back for the games against Brighton and Nottingham Forest.

But clearly, Amorim is not taking any chances, and the Red Devils are being very careful with his reintroduction.

As per The Daily Mail, the 20-time English league champions feel the ex-Ajax star’s recovery is best served by going with the Argentina national team and training with them during the November international break instead of staying back at Carrington.

“Lisandro Martinez could join up with Argentina in the international break, even though he might not have made his comeback for United after a long-term knee injury.

Training plans

“Martinez is back in full training for the first time since rupturing an ACL in early February, but Amorim is being careful not to rush the 27-year-old defender.

“It’s understood that United feel Martinez’s recovery may be better served by training at a high level with Argentina rather than staying at Carrington when most of his team-mates will be away on international duty and the remainder will be having some time off and lighter workouts.”

The return of Lisandro Martinez will be a huge boost for Amorim given his ability with and without the ball. United have missed a fiery presence at the back and someone who can break the lines with his passing.

Hopefully, he can stay fit and start firing soon. United need him if they are to finish in the Premier League top four at the end of this campaign.
