Liverpool 0-0 Fulham: Reds frustrated as Fulham hold out for draw at Anfield | OneFootball

Liverpool were held to a fourth consecutive home league draw as Fulham frustrated the Reds at Anfield, a run not seen at the club since 2011.

Both sides had chances in the first half, with Gonzalo García having an effort cleared off the line, as Victor Muñoz came closest for the hosts after his header came back off the crossbar from close range.

Both teams had spells in the second half but were unable to find the breakthrough which would have given either side a crucial three points. Instead, they had to settle for one.

The first chance of the afternoon came for the hosts after they won the ball back. Bradley Barcola picked up the ball inside the Fulham half before threading a ball through to Alexander Isak, but his finish just flashed past the post.

Liverpool very nearly played themselves into trouble as Sander Berge nicked the ball back inside the Liverpool penalty area, with the ball finding the feet of Gonzalo García, but his goalbound effort was cleared off the line by Jeremy Jacquet, who showed great defensive instincts to prevent his side going down early.

It continued to be an end-to-end contest, with Victor Muñoz coming close after his header came back off the crossbar from close range following a Dominic Szoboszlai corner.

Fulham began to get a strong foothold in the game, and started to dominate the ball. It culminated in an opportunity at the back post for Anthonee Robinson after Oscar Bobb got to the byline and clipped a ball to the American left-back, who attacked it well but just couldn’t direct his header on target.

The second half continued in a similar way, with neither team really generating any clear-cut chances, which suited the visitors more than the hosts.

Liverpool started to ramp up the pressure with 20 minutes to go, but were struggling to break down Arbeloa’s side. Barcola finally found some space in the box after a lovely pass from Florian Wirtz, but the Frenchman decided to try to cut the ball back for Isak instead of taking on the shot himself, but it was cut out well as Fulham continued to defend valiantly.

The visitors showed they were still a threat on the break, with Josh King at the heart of everything good that Fulham did. He carried the ball forward through the midfield, creating space for a shot from outside the box, which Alisson parried away. Soon after Rodrigo Muniz very nearly had a chance after he was picked out well by Kevin, but the Brazilian striker was unable to take the ball down.

Liverpool very nearly found the winner late on as Isak met Szoboszlai’s corner, but the Swedish striker could only glance his header wide. Rio Ngumoha had another incredible chance at the death as he met Jeremie Frimpong’s cross, but could only steer the ball high into the Kop end as the points were shared at Anfield.

Liverpool have now drawn their last four home Premier League games as Fulham pick up an important, and well-deserved first point of the season.
