The Reds started brightly but found themselves behind just after the half hour mark when centre-back Murillo rifled in the opener after a corner. Forest were denied a second goal when it was ruled that Igor Jesus accidentally handled the ball, but the visitors soon got their reward.

Just 39 seconds after play resumed for the second half, former Liverpool defender Neco Williams found fellow full-back Nicolo Savona in the box and Sean Dyche’s side doubled their lead.

With the energy sapped from the hosts and the home crowd, Forest pushed for a third and earned it as Morgan Gibbs-White bundled home the rebound after the returning Alisson saved from Omari Hutchinson.
